"Times long gone by" is not a song about a specific person, but about being ripped from your normal life, at the mercy of faceless interrogators. It’s about the hope of not being forgotten by other people. It should remind us that freedom is knowing the government’s henchmen won't come kicking in our doors in the still of the night. 
Written in 1988, it was originally recorded for the "SteNo" project, then for "Victor the Gunn", the second "Men in Raincoats” CD. This version is very close to that first SteNo recording; the piano is almost identical. At first I used the fretless bass track from the MIR recording, but decided that the tempo of that version was too slow, so I re-recorded it. The other two notable differences to the earlier versions are the guitar solo and the multi-layered vocals.
