"The night", originally written in 1985, is the final song of a planned but never finished song cycle about a community’s descent into madness after everyone starts receiving everyone else’s thoughts. This song is the only survivor of this dabbling with full-blown progressive concept album madness. Like "Walking close to you", I had nearly finished producing this song for the "Growing Old Disgracefully" project. The only thing missing was a female vocalist for the chorus. As this, like all the others here, is also one of the songs I keep returning to, I decided to include it in the "Ancient Gems" collection.
Apart from the additional acoustic guitar, the choir in the chorus and the re-recorded lead vocals, the rest of the instrumentation is identical to the band version, with Katarzyna once again on drums.
