No other song on this CD contains as many tracks from former productions as "Do you remember me". It was originally recorded on my Tascam 4-track shortly after writing it in 1990. While recording, I split the signal and also captured the individual tracks on a DAT recorder. The bass track from those sessions was used in this production. Most of the electric guitar tracks on this recording are taken from a digital multitrack version for my 2002 "Kinder than Strangers" CD. All the keyboards, apart from the Fender Rhodes, the acoustic guitars and some of the electric guitars were specifically recorded for "Ancient Gems". This is also the first song where the full electronic/analogue hybrid drum set was used, with all the cymbals being played on real cymbals. For "Kristallpalast" and "Counting out time" pads were still used. Of all my recordings, this is the most elaborate, clocking in at 56 individual instrumental & vocal tracks, not counting bus tracks.
lyrics
Do you remember me (lyrics)
Not so long ago the two of us were one
Once we used to be in love
But now our dreams, shattered by reality
Now, we live separate lives
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, remember the bad times, remember the lot
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, there were so few bad times, remember the lot
It was summer when the two of us first met
On a sunny day in June
I still remember you were whistling a tune
The tune is still in my head
It started off so well, we made the perfect pair
Our happiness, it seemed complete
But then I had to go, there was no other way
Leaving behind shattered dreams
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, remember the bad times, remember the lot
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, there were so few bad times, remember the lot
Do you remember walking to Edale
On all those lovely Sunday afternoons
Remember us walking, us laughing and talking
Do you remember all the fun we had
Do you remember talking till midnight
Do you remember all the plans we made
Remember the cottage we wanted to buy
Do you remember that
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, remember the bad times, remember the lot
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, there were so few bad times, remember the lot
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, remember the bad times, remember the lot
Do you remember me, remember how it used to be
Remember the good times, there were so few bad times, remember the lot
